Thank you Gregory and Carl. I had read the follow up article and seen the later photos of this woman, she looked weathered and worn, but , you are right, she still had her striking green eyes. This drawing was actually done in colored pencil. I did it while I was working at a law firm in college as a receptionist. It took me about a week to draw in between phone calls and helping clients.

Jean: This is an masterful rendition of the Afghan girl from the original photograph by Steve McCurry. You may know that he returned to Afghanistan to see if he could locate the woman more than 20 years later. In fact, he did locate her and, as he expected, she had aged--but her green eyes were the same. I believe those jeans had been exported into this region by the invaders led by Alexander the Great. Did you do this with pastels?

LONG-TIME member of the Society... it was only when i clicked on the image did i see what an incredible repro it is... you NAILED the eyes, which have haunted me since the first second i saw the cover... great portfolio... gregory
